I bought first Lamy pen in June 2021. Back then I had only one Waterman Hemisphere from my dad and some old parker Vector from high school times and wanted to start writing with fountain pens again.

I can’t remember why I’ve chosen Lamy. Probably by the design – I liked that black, straight form of Black Al-Star. I suppose so, as the next one was Faber-Castell Essentio in Black Alu (but it wasn’t a catch). Than it was Lamy Safari Red and Green – to have separate pens for those ink colours. I’ve wandered a bit through Kaweco Sport, Caran d’Ache 849, Platinium Prefounte and TWSBI Eco, but finally special editions and various colours of Lamy Al-Star and Safari caught me for good.

I haven’t meant to get every edition back then – only those which I liked, and I regret it, as I had occasions to get some rare models and missed them. Even that, I think that my collection is quite complete, having in mind that it took me a bit over 4 years to be a this point of 145 pieces (or 142, if Balloons don’t count in).

They say that nothing is by the chance – but if it’s not a chance, something really wants me to complete my set. It was so many unbelievable events through those years… A friend buying me pens in Dubai, a friend of a friend buying one in Tokyo. Some forgotten old stock in shop and additionally owner of that shop selling me their demo pens in rare colours. Some hint about the Instagram post and contact to great lady selling her collection. Packages from Thailand and Hong-Kong. Auctions of very rare Lamy’s just like that appearing when I was checking portal. Editions of new Lamy’s just before I was travelling through Frankfurt Airport (twice! it was magic, especially that Lamy distribution in Poland was not existing during that time). Members of our Facebook “Pióromania” group selling me their old Safaris, knowing that I’m collecting them. Exhibitor at Pen Show Poland importing some rare Lamy’s from Germany especially for me… I’m grateful for each and every moment when I was united with yet another Lamy pen 🙂

At the end of 2023 I’ve made first “family photo”. Since then I try to repeat this procedure every year, even it’s getting harder 🙂 And and, what’s more, both 2024 and 2025 are missing some pens that surprisingly came to me later in December…
