Sailor
Sailor is a historic Japanese writing‑instrument manufacturer founded in 1911 in Hiroshima by Kyugoro Sakata, inspired by a fountain pen shown to him by a visiting British sailor. The company became one of Japan’s earliest and most influential pen makers, known for producing the country’s first gold‑nib fountain pens and later pioneering innovations such as 21k nibs, ink cartridges, and a wide range of specialty nibs.
Today, Sailor is celebrated worldwide for its precision‑crafted fountain pens — especially the 1911 and Pro Gear lines — and for its extensive ink collections like Shikiori, Manyo, and Ink Studio. The brand remains synonymous with exceptional nib craftsmanship and traditional Japanese quality.
